“To walk in other people’s shoes, you have to understand where they’ve been.”

Attorney Vincent Odom advocates for his medical malpractice clients in Louisiana using his legal expertise combined with his own years of experience working as a nurse in emergency departments and cardiovascular, surgical, and medical ICUs.

Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, Vincent followed the path of so many of his family members when he chose to study the practice of nursing at The University of South Alabama. After working for several years as a nurse in Mobile and Monroeville Alabama, Vincent enrolled in law school at Loyola University in New Orleans where he graduated near the top of his class, Magna Cum Laude.

While a student, Vincent participated in the Loyola College of Law intramural trial advocacy program, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (“VITA”) program, law review, and completed a summer internship with Federal District Court Judge DuBose in the Southern District of Alabama. Vincent began to bring his talents and knowledge of medicine to Capitelli & Wicker as a law student, helping conduct legal research as well as assist in screening medical cases for the firm. Since his admission to the Louisiana State Bar, Vincent has remained with the firm as a practicing attorney working primarily in the firm’s medical malpractice section.

As an attorney, Vincent knows what to look for when determining whether or not malpractice occurred. His background means that he can read the charts, look at the overall progression of events, and see the errors. Often, there are mistakes made at healthcare institutions that could have been prevented had an inexpensive test been administered, had the paperwork been appropriately completed, or had proper care been administered. This holds true regardless of the medical facility, whether it is a clinic office, hospital, or nursing home.

Unfortunately, with seemingly unlimited resources, hospitals and corporations are often able to escape liability, fighting tooth and nail to justify their actions or by simply withholding information from those who don’t know the right questions to ask.

In his practice, Vincent works diligently to protect his clients’ interests. Not only is it important to him that his client receive the due diligence and representation they need, but that his work improves the quality of healthcare for all people in our community by holding practitioners in the medical field accountable. In the end, Vincent’s goal is to make sure that his clients receive justice, and that what happened to them does not happen to someone else.
