From watching his family traverse difficult legal options to his decades of experience helping clients after a catastrophic event, Michael knows a person’s confidence and their case are shaped by the lawyer they choose.
A native of New Orleans, Michael graduated from the University of New Orleans before going on to receive his Juris Doctor from Loyola University School of Law.
He hadn’t always dreamed of being a lawyer.
But from a young age, he observed that many of his father’s most trusted advisors were attorneys. When his father passed away, he witnessed his mother’s relief after finding legal help she could trust to manage their affairs.
These experiences, combined with Michael’s natural interest in helping people, led him to the legal field.
Early on in his career, Michael worked for the Honorable John Alario in the Louisiana House of Representatives, serving as a research aide to Mr. Alario during his second tenure as the Speaker of the House.
Michael was later employed by one of New Orleans’ premier defense firms, rising through the firm’s ranks from a court-runner to become a managing partner. In the first few years of his practice, Michael represented healthcare professionals, hospitals, blood banks, and pharmaceutical companies.
Some of his cases included trial counsel for a major New Orleans health care facility in post-Katrina evacuation litigation; lead counsel for the Louisiana Association of Allergists in its contract negotiations with Louisiana Blue Cross Blue Shield; and trial counsel for a forensic odontologist in a civil rights action that was covered nationally by 60 Minutes, Newsweek, and A & E Television.
During this time, Michael honed his skills as a litigation attorney. He discovered that he enjoyed the medical complexities of his cases, the frequency that his cases went to trial, and the challenge of effectively communicating complicated medical issues to a judge or a jury.

In 2009, Michael left the defense firm to work as a principal in a local engineering firm intimately involved in designing flood protection projects and coastal restoration projects throughout Southeast Louisiana. His work has included drafting Restore Act funding grants for local parishes that has funded millions of dollars of coastal projects. He also serves as part of the program management team for the State of Louisiana on its comprehensive Watershed Initiative.
Michael joined Capitelli and Wicker in 2021 and has taken the lead on numerous serious medical malpractice cases. His experience working on the other side of these cases early in his career is vital in helping clients understand what they’re facing and coming up with innovative solutions to ensure his clients are taken care of.
For Michael, he loves the relief on a client’s face when he is able to lean in, look directly at them, and let them know that the firm will use all of its resources to help them with their issue.
Giving back to the New Orleans community is important to Michael. He was a member of the UNO baseball team from 1989-1991, so in his spare time, he helps run the Knights Knation travel baseball and softball organization, which serves to help young women and men get recruited to play college athletics.
He is also a proud father to two young lawyers who have an insatiable desire to help people, and have already made significant impacts in the local community. It has been his absolute joy to watch them blossom.
