Carey has been a partner and principal of the law firm of Capitelli and Wicker since its inception in 1987. In his 35 years of litigation experience, he has handled all facets of personal injury law with an emphasis on medical malpractice cases as well as products liability cases. He has received the highest professional rating available from Martindale Hubbell (AV) and his firm, Capitelli and Wicker has been named to the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers. He has been recognized as one of the top 100 trial lawyers in the state of Louisiana for numerous consecutive years and has received certification from the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, an arm of the American Bar Association, for special competence in the field of medical malpractice litigation. Carey has successfully tried cases in many courts throughout the state of Louisiana and in courts outside the state of Louisiana. These include medical malpractice cases, maritime cases, personal injury cases and products liability cases. Carey was co-counsel on a products liability case and received one of the largest compensatory damage awards for any one injured plaintiff ($34.1 million) in the history of the state of Louisiana. He serves as a guest lecturer at the advanced torts class at Tulane University Law School on the subject of medical malpractice. He also serves annually as a guest lecturer on medical negligence with the Continuing Legal Education of Louisiana Group which has numerous Judges from throughout the state of Louisiana as attendees and speakers. He has recently been selected as a fellow in the International Society of Barristers which is an honor society of trial lawyers chosen on the basis of excellence and integrity in advocacy.
